There is two type of grids: normal grid and pixel grid. Pixel grid is drawn around each pixel, the normal grid is drawn around several pixels. Pixel grid is used to see the boundaries of pixels in zoomed-in view. Normal grid is used to see the boundaries of tiles in a tileset, or characters in a font image.
Grids can have dynamic colors (ie. the color for the grid will be chosen to maximize the contrast), or it can have a fixed color (which you can choose of course). You can also choose to make the grid semi transparent by checking the "Blend color (50%)" option.
