ClockSS v0.4 released

I finally made some time to update the clock screensaver (or something like that) application, so you can download v0.4 here.

Changes:

  • Added floating small clock to show to current time anywhere
  • By clocking on the small clock willactivate the screensaver immediately
  • The application should not activate itself in the middle of a call
  • The date is shown as well (for now in fixed format: YYYY.MM.DD)
  • Analog clock fixed
  • Option added to not hide the top of the screen (so you can see new message, or not answered calls). Clicking on any icon in the top of the screen deactivates the screensaver (except in total lock mode)
  • Total lock fixed

    Wonderful.. works as stated

    Thanks for the hard work

hi Pal. great to see you could include the date and the small floating clock features!
would be cool if you could make the size of the small clock choosable (very small, small, medium, big).
i’m still not able to read 2 out of the 4 clock types. (i’m not a coder ;)
as a typeface designer can i support you and your great app ClockSS by sending you some numbers 0-9 in .png files? if so please send me the specifications/dimensions/file format you need.

    What an improvement!!!

    Some issues though:
    - the selected settings (10sec , total lock etc) don’t seem to be saved, after
a restart of the phone I’m back to the default settings.
    - after a restart everything works ok, but after some time, the application doesn’t activate…
    - 2 items in the activity list
    - ability to choose position of the small clock
    - version number

    …otherwise it’s just GREAT!!! ;-)

  4. Michael Says:

    Ready for some more?

    - Could the app be deactivated when I open the flip? Now when I open the flip, its active and I need to push ALT *, ALT # to “close” it…

  5. Roy Says:

Great improved application such as floating small transparent clock, as Michael had stated, bugs may be fixed it for next version :

    1. Big clock not support 12 hours format
    2. Tiny floating time not saved after setting for next activate.
    3. Working with keypad (P990) press * and # to unlock screen but not for removed keypad (still need to press ALT key)

    One more request :
Could add “RESTART” the phone for soft boot

  6. hcb Says:

    Hello!

Thank you very much! ClockSS is the only piece of software I was missing on my SE M600i!

There is only one thing. On my brandet M600i, the “hardware button” is not locked. If the ClockSS is running, the whole keyboard is locked, except the one one the right side of the mobile. So - with the phone in the pocket - I had some Internet-Dial ins… :-(

    Maybe you can change this?

    Thank you!
    hcb

  7. Michael Says:

Just some information back to u:
The lastest (?) version (0.5 pre1) solved the issue with ALT * and #!

Now I’m just waitning a new release!

    Keep up the good work!!!

  8. Taco Says:

    hi there.

    - maybe its just me, but is it possible to make the “autolock” optionable?
if the clock starts, i always have to press * and # to get back to the standby-screen.
in my k600 the screensaver doesnt automatically lock. if i press any button, the screensaver goes away. only if i locked it prior to that i have to press * #.

    - whens the date format edible? ;P

    - is it possible to get the same look as in the normal clocksavers? i mean only the black clock on the colorless screen? any chance for that?

    otherwise great app.

Your clockss work great but there’s always room for improvement. Guess human wont be happy with how things are……..so here’s my suggestions.
    1) able to display the clock horizontally so that M600i can be display horizontally while charging the phone.
    2) act as a night clock beside the bed is just wonderful but with the charger attached the display is still kind of bright even at 0% dimmed setting. Possible to color the display figure into softer color?
Thats all my suggestion. Anyway, clockss is a great utility for M600i. Thank you very much.

  10. Tom Says:

Had to take my watch in to be fixed and wanted a simple, but elegant program from which to use my phone for this purpose… GREAT job - thank you!!!!

  11. Sanjeev Says:

Was excited to see a big clock (installed clockss_0_2) on my newly purchased M600i - something I am used to since my T68i days. However the phone seems to have been locked and it does not take the * and # keys independently or with “Alt”. I powered it down and it wouldn’t start. Maybe the power was low but then on connecting power cable no light seems to come on. Sorry to bother you with this but would appreciate any help to access my phone.

  12. space Says:

    Hi!

I’m sorry that your phone is not working, but I have no idea what the problem can be. I don’t think it’s clockss (at least I hope it’s not). I would try to borrow a full battery and try with that one (other SE phones uses the same battery: p990, w900, k800, etc). Then you could try reflashing the software. But I think the safest idea is to go to a service center.

  13. hcb Says:

    Hello,

on 22.11.2007 I’ve asked for a workaround to my M600i. Are you still developing, or want there come anything in the future?

Would be great to read something… :-(

  14. space Says:

    Hi!

Sorry for not replying, I was very busy since then: I got a new job, I moved to a different country (Sweden is very nice, especially now, after a snowstorm).

There is no solution for your problem, at least not yet. The problem is I cannot control that hardware button, for that capabilities would be needed, and for that symbian signed, which is a very complicated process.

I also stopped working on clockss… for now… but I will continue to work on it, since I got from you guys a lot of good ideas.

I also try to find a solution for the keylock, ie. to make it behave as a normal keylock. My idea was to check periodically if the keylock is on, and if yes, activate it. That way what I would simply do is rely on the phone keylocking, but render my own screensaver.

  15. Chris Says:

Great work! I use PDAir Aluminium case for my M600i, so accessing the Back Button is tough, and I don’t like using the normal Unlock method (have to open the screen cover of the case). Using your tool, I can use the two keys easily! A Great Help for my daily use!

Suggestion for improvement (if you don’t mind):

After call, the ClockSS will not resume activity (blanking out the screen). I have to switch manually from Task Manager. I guess it’s because you purposely making it not running during call?

Also, if the phone is set to Flight Mode, the application won’t kick off. Is it related to the link with Phone application?

  16. Rob Says:

Like the app - it is precisely what I had missed after I swapped from a P910 …
    … thanks very much!
    Two suggestions:
    Activation time - 30 Seconds?
Movable and re-sizable small clock - it blocks a few icons where it is …

  17. Chris Says:

I tried adding 30Sec timeout into the source code .. but not sure how to compile it back to SIS?

  18. Xof Says:

I love this piece of software and opensource too!! It’s nice to edit the software to your own wishes.

@ Chris, you need some SDK’s
If your using netbeans to edit the code see http://www.netbeans.org/kb/50/quickstart-mobility-cdc.html

  19. Xof Says:

Hmm it’s C++, so ignore that link, but you still need some SDK’s.. google is your friend ;)

  21. Chris Says:

Anyway, now I need & use 2 minutes, because Swiss Manager will do clean up after 2 minutes, and only if Standby Screen is shown. I can’t have it started earlier than that :-)

  22. Pertsa Says:

    Great software! A few suggestions:

    - customiseable PNG background (eg. skin)
    - customiseable unlock sequence (for example jogdial down+press)
    - fullscreen mode: icons for messages/missed calls etc

  23. zhangqing Says:

    Please release the news edition!
And bug report:when it come active and the light began to dark i turn the wheel on the m600, than it will be unlock automantic~

  24. sssslang Says:

Is it possible to lock the screen light off when it’s active? I think it’s a power drain :-P

  25. Markus Says:

Hello! Great “screensaver”!, really like it.
If I want to make some minor changes in the code for myself, how do I compile the code afterwards? I’m using Microsoft Visual Studio. What SDK do I need?

  26. Björn Wetterbom Says:

I really like your app, and there is nothing like it out there (haven’t found any freeware or commercial clock screensaver for UIQ3).

Only thing I’m missing is to make it a true screensaver. That is, make the key lock optional. Could you please look into it?

  27. Nettuno Says:

    Has anybody recompiled it?
Markus have You done something? I’m interested too, so I’m triing with Carbide and UIQ SDK 3.0, with some problems… and for now I’ve not compile it at all. :-(
    Some suggest? Thanks!

    adding to hcb>

1] SEVERE> the user/hardware button on M600i does not get locked when in standard locked mode - when accidentally pressed it kills the ClockSS and goes to standby…

    2] HINT> the options don’t save after restart, it all needs to be set up again {like clock type - takes ages and is annoying}

    3] WISH>
    *optional message {location}when keys pressed - at the moment it covers the clock {M600i}
*optional background would be nice of course :-)

+THANKS A LOT FOR THIS LOVELY CLOCKSS!!!

  30. space Says:

    Hi!

The main problem with clockss is that it’s not a real screensaver, it does not intergrate well into the system (due to lack of documentation, the problem with capabilities, and so on). So this is the best I could make. Also due to lack of time I don’t really work on this anymore :-( However hopefully some day somebody will continue my work, or do a similar app, and then he/she can use your comments/ideas.

    /Pal Szasz

  31. Chris Says:

It’s circulating version 0.5 .. is this valid version? Can you endorse that the version is safe to use?

Now that LongCuts and GDesk is available, ClockSS becomes the champion screensaver that can be invoked by these two ;) , plus it takes very little memory .. better than java version ..

  32. JIM Says:

    Thanks for your suggests .

  33. Deen Hameed Says:

    I love your ClockSS :)

I was wishing just this morning that my P1i had a small clock on the status bar (the P900 had it, but it’s missing here), and your program is simply brilliant.

Only wish the position of the small clock on the status bar was not so far to the left, as it covers the wifi & internet indicators… Any chance of moving it a bit more to the right? say, right next to the batter indicator?

  34. Cristi Says:

    Great app.

But has some minuses though. (I have version 0.4 on SE G900 and keep it set with “10s total partial”)
    - The first one is the fact that the timeout periods are not on everybody’s needs. I for one see the 10 sec as too little cause if i’m typing an sms and thinking a little or calling somebody it locks. Also the next available period is way too much - 1min. The best thing to do is to create an input for seconds and let the user select from 10s to 600s (=10mins) whatever value he wants.
For me an ideal would be 20s

    - Also another bugging issue is the fact that it doesn’t seem to recognize correctly the inactivity state of the phone.
For instance as i said if i have the timeout set to 10s and i’m calling someone - if the call is not answered in there 10s then Clockss activates (the call continues and i have to manually unlock Clockss to end the call).
The same happens if ‘m in a call.
Also if i have a missed call (Clockss is activated) and press call for that person then the call window is activated in the background, beneath Clockss and the only way to end the call is by unlocking Clockss first.
A normal behaviour here would be either to automatically unlock on making the call and relock on closing the call OR to give priority to the calls and put the calls window on top of the Clockss one, thus when ending the calls the Clockss to be already active.

    - And another thing that would be much welcomed would be the possibility to keep the screen lit up at minimum brightness after activating. Thus the clock will be visible all the time - just as at the rest of the SonyEricssons that aren’t UIQ.

These 3 changes would make the application a lot more user friendly.

Eitherway you have my respect for the app and the fact that you made it freeware.
    Regards.

  35. Cristi Says:

    And almost forgot:

Put an About in the popoup menu of the program so i can see what version if the program i have installed at the moment ! (the same goes for StickIt too:)

    Respect.

  36. Cristi Says:

Hi again, looks like i’m a lousy tester :P

Scratch this part of the first comment:
“- For instance as i said if i have the timeout set to 10s and i’m calling someone - if the call is not answered in there 10s then Clockss activates (the call continues and i have to manually unlock Clockss to end the call).
    - The same happens if I’m in a call.”

The only issue related to calls is the “missed call” behaviour.

    Regards
